Detroit's Criminal Justice System
All cultures around the world, despite their many differences, encounter common problems and share common features. This is because all cultures have fundamental needs that must be met. In order for a society or group to survive, they must develop established ways of preserving social order through a social control system. This system must establish rules or laws. In our case, our criminal justice system is one way we preserve social order.
However, our criminal justice system is not perfect because, as an institution, it is governed by imperfect humans. Despite this, for the most part, it effectively preserves social order, and the countless men and women involved in the system do an amazing job. When prejudices and unfairness infiltrate the system, it can lead to devastating results.
